Tabuu Wrap-up: That ‘big boy’ has some rather interesting and funny facts you’ll surely enjoy!
Based on first impressions, you wouldn’t think the penis is mysterious at all. After all, it’s right there and most men are not shy about it. In fact, they take a lot of pride in it. But putting that aside, you may ignore many things about penises, which is what makes them mysterious.
It’s not uncommon for people to think that penises are what you see and nothing more. The vagina is often the one that hogs all the attention because it’s really not easy to understand and they are all so different. But penises are also very different and there are many things we should know that no one cares to teach us.
We shouldn’t assume the male reproductive system is not as complex as the female reproductive system. And a little research will help you see that’s not the case at all! So, if you want to understand this important feature of men’s bodies a little bit better, let’s take a look at 10 super interesting facts everyone should know about penises!
1. They Can Break
Oh yeah, that’s a thing. Even though the human penis doesn’t have a bone, it can still break. It sounds horrific and, can you imagine the poor guy who ever experiences that? Brutal! But penile fractures happen and it’s usually caused by running into a very stiff surface, including the female’s pubic bone, a bed, or something as soft as a pillow. When the impact between the penis and the surface has enough force, it will cause the corpora cavernosa to tear on the inside. If this ever happens, run the hospital! When penile fractures are left untreated, the urethra can be damaged, so don’t take any chances.
2. If You See One, You’ve Seen Almost All of Them
Despite of what you may have been lead to believe by the media, it’s common for the majority of penises to have one size, which is, on average, between 3 to 4 inches at its flaccid state, and 5 to 6 inches with an erection. Of course, some men out there have bigger penises, but this is the average. Only 6% of men need condoms of the magnum size variety, which means 94% of the population is average.
3. It Doesn’t Have a Bone, Technically Speaking
I’ve already mentioned that penises don’t have a bone, unlike other mammals, but that left many scientists wondering how it becomes, and stays, so hard. As it turns out, Diane Kelly, a senior research fellow of the University of Massachusetts, may have found the answer. The fact is that the penis is a hydrostatic skeleton, so it’s very similar to invertebrate organisms, such as worms. What invertebrates do to change shape is use fluid pressure and muscle action, which is exactly what the penis does. However, the penis is quite unique because it has many collagen fiber layers that are highly organized and they’re arranged at 0° and 90° to the penis’ length. Thanks to this, erect penises are able to stay up and remain stiff while still resisting bending.
4. Ejaculation and Orgasms Are Not One in the Same
When it comes to orgasms, the female one hogs all the attention, probably because it’s so elusive and it requires so much work. By contrast, we assume the male orgasm is a super easy, and generally that’s the case, but it’s not true men always have an orgasm. Many people assume orgasm and ejaculation are the same things, but they’re actually two separate occurences. This means men can ejaculate and not have an orgasm, which is known as “ejaculatory anhedonia”, and it’s often the result of depression, injuries,or illness. Some men can have an orgasm without ejaculation if they learn to isolate a certain pelvic muscle and squeeze it at the right moment, but that’s a really impressive skill not everyone has.
5. Vasectomies Are Not 100% Foolproof
It’s a perfect dream; just one little snip and you don’t have to deal with contraceptives. All it takes is an appointment with your surgeon and you can have bareback sex forever without resulting in babies. Well, the reality is not as perfect as that. Most men can’t have unprotected sex up to 2 months after the surgery because sperm is quite the relentless warrior. This means you still have to use protection until your doctor gives you the OK. Not to mention vasectomy is not 100% foolproof and it can fail in 0.02% of the cases.
6. Flaccid Size Will Not Tell You How It Will Look When Erect
It seems nonsensical, but it’s true! The size of a flaccid penis provides no indication of what size it will have when erect. According to a study involving 80 men, some penises grow as much as 3.5 inches, and others only grow a half-inch once they’re erect. There’s really no way of knowing beforehand.
7. Vibrators Are Also for Men
When we think of vibrators, we think they’re only for women. That’s because they’re marketed to them, so many people ignore they also work on penises. Actually, penises are the equivalent of the clitoris, and many people overlook this. Men can have an orgasm using vibrators, specifically by placing it below the penis’ head. Huh! The more you know…
8. Penises Resemble a Particular Weapon
It’s no surprise to anyone that men think very highly of this organ and they consider it to be very powerful. And they are weapons. Well, they resemble one at least. A team of researches in Holland back in 2007 put people into an MRI machine and watched then engage in intercourse. I know, how awkward. But, they discovered that the penis is one-third longer than what we can see, and, during missionary, it takes the shape of a boomerang.
9. Most Men Are Not Circumcised
The WHO report in 2007 states that 30% of men around the world are circumcised. Of course, the percentage will vary depending on where you live. For example, 80% of men in the US are circumcised. This can be done for many different reasons, including health, religion, and aesthetics. However, doctors deem it more necessary than aesthetics.
10. Foreskin Has Its Uses
Circumcision rates have been on a downard spiral for decades, says the American Academy of Pediatrics, and that’s a shame for a very important reason. We already know men don’t require their foreskin. What we didn’t know is the foreskin is useful and it can make a difference in the world. More than it does while attached to the penis. Did you know the discarded foreskin of an infant can grow as much as to cover 6 football fields? It sounds incredible, but it’s the truth. This is why foreskin can be used to help burn victims as well as people with other major skin injuries. Who knew?
And that’s it, those are the top 10 most amazing facts about penises that everyone should know about. There are many more interesting facts about penises out there, so I leave you with a bonus fact: every penis is very different. This is why you need to become familiar with the penis you have on a one-on-one level. It’s very important for both men and women. Why? Because it will contribute to more rewarding sex life, so the more you know, the better.
